Concert Alba-la-Romaine Saturday May 25, 2024 – 8 p.m.

DELEYAMAN & Maruschka DETMERS

VOTIVE CONCERT

with the participation of Laury-Nuria ANDRÉ

Continuing their exploration between poetry and the musical genres of indie rock and ethereal ballads, the French-American band, Deleyaman already familiar with collaborations combining actresses, literature and alternative music (Fanny Ardant & Deleyaman at the Maison de la Poésie in Paris, 2023 and Maruschka Detmers & Deleyaman at the Theatre Le Rayon Vert, 2024, musical reading by Stig Dagerman, Our need for consolation is insatiable) operate here a further weaving of genres. An invigorating and mysterious dive into the ancient mystical texts of the Greek and Indian (Bengali) languages translated into French.

Following their meeting with the researcher Laury-Nuria André, a specialist in the epic and
ancient landscapes as well as a specialist in the contemporary view and reception of Antiquity, a project was born based on a creation bringing ancient writings and cultures to dialogue with contemporary music. The concert at the Antique Gallo-Roman theater of Alba-la-Romaine is the prelude of this project.

As in ancient performances, a plural musical concept is played out, oscillating between concert and performance, which transforms ancient texts, contemporary poetry and musical compositions into offerings celebrating human destinies.

The unique voice of Maruschka Detmers, incarnates the verses of the Bengali poet, Rabindranath Tagore (Lyrical Offerings translated by André Gide) and finds an echo in the readings and psalmodies of Greek texts by Homer, Pindar, Aeschylus, Alcaeus and Euripides. This dialogue between the ancient and the contemporary is set to the music of Deleyaman. A unique experience, in an ancient theatre which invites the spectator to a reverie between here and elsewhere.
